For those of you who follow me on Instagram(which is also mostly linked to Facebook and Twitter too), you would have known that I recently got myself a new toy to play with!
That's right, it's the amazing Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5!
The Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5 is a little dynamite! The camera is compact, considerably lightweight, and pretty sturdy in its built. I can easily place it in my big handbag being rest assured that it wouldn't be scratched and stuff.
Also, because of its compact size, I've been placing it in my handbag for the past few weeks, bringing it with me wherever I went as it wasn't too heavy for us ladies to carry.
And don't be fooled by its size. It may not be as huge in size as compared to the DSLRs, but the Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5 has functions and features that could easily produce quality images comparable to those of DSLRs!
The images are sharp! This photo was taken at Jasmine's wedding a week ago with flash. Most of the time, pictures taken with flash could make us look like pale zombies, but this flash flattered all of our skin and cause our features to all stand out at the same time!
One of the key features about the Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5 is the Touch AF Shutter. Olympus claims it to be the 'World's Fastest Touch Screen AF Shutter', and I have no doubts about that at all.
With just a simple touch on the Live View screen, the Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5 - equipped with FAST AF for instant auto-focusing and Touch Shutter for instant image capturing - allows the focused area to be captured with precision and with ease. Forget about having to press the capture button again and again to get the focus right on this camera.

All the babes who worked in events together with the radiant bride, Jasmine Leong (spot her beside the groom!). This has got to be the wedding dinner with the highest concentration of pretty girls! It was seriously a reunion in there for so many of us! So so glad :)
This shot was also made possible because of its Wide Angle Lens!
This was taken after The Sanherin Easter Production at CHCKL. It was fun acting as a Roman Queen, Claudia. Except the hair (which was of course, a wig) was quite heavy...so twas pretty painful after a long while.
Anyways, the husby took my camera to capture the drama production. He used many Art Filters too which added extra 'feel' to the pictures. More about Art Filters in my next post! ;)
The husby was sitting righttttt at the end of the hall (which was really far away), yet he managed to zoom in and captured this shot perfectly! This image was captured in extreme low light, and even after zooming in so much, the picture remains sharp.
This is due to a few features of the Olympus PEN LIte E-PL5, namely the sensor, image processing engine and the high quality Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses.
The camera can shoot up to ISO25600 with huge noise reduction due to its 16M Live MOS Sensor, making it possible to capture sharp, clear images with little loss of detail even under conditions where flash cannot be used. Hence, beautiful impeccable quality photos! :)
The Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5 also has ultra-high sensitivity for handheld nightscape shooting, and has an extremely wide dynamic range from low light to high brightness making it possible to accurately reproduce light and shade.
The high-speed TruePic VI image processing engine incorporates fine detail processing and real-colour technology which produces amazing images with high resolution and vivid, bigger-than-life details.
To compensate for the lack of a viewfinder (which honestly, I don't think many people use it these days unless you're a professional photographer), a dedicated image processing core is used for both the recorded image and Live View image so photographers will be able to see what the image will look like before they even shoot.
Combined with the Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses whch Olympus has spent years refining and improving, the Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5 is quite a little pocket rocket!
The monitor also swivels for easy self-portrait shooting, which is totally a plus point for us (girls AND guys) who love to do self-portraits ;)
However, a small drawback is that the flash mounted on the hotshoe that blocks the monitor a bit. But then again, we hardly do self-portraits with flash anyway, so it's still alright.
Another useful feature is the ability to import photos directly from the camera to my smartphone without any cables or card readers! I can now immediately upload high quality photos onto my Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
This is achieved by using the (optional) FlashAir Wi-Fi SD Card in place of a normal SD card. Then just launch the OI.Share application on your smartphone when you want to transfer the photos and you will be able to view thumbnails of the pictures in the camera on your smartphone display, and you can then select the pictures to import.
The Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5 comes with Body, Flash FL-LM1, Li-ion battery BLS-5, Li-ion battery charger BCS-5, USB cable, AV cable, Shoulder strap, OLYMPUS Viewer 2 (CD-ROM), Instruction manual, Warranty card, MCG-4 (Changeable Grip).
