Monday Blues.

Haven't felt this way for a long time. I'm most of the time chirpy, positive and excited about life (and yes, about Mondays too).

But as I drove and was stuck in the usual morning rush hour on the way to Uni, I called the bf to chat and that always makes me feel better about the traffic. But it dawned upon me that for the next 3 weeks, I wouldn't be able to call him whenever I like.

And to make matters worse, Gladys the sis would be starting Uni soon. Which means she'll be staying in campus for a year. Which also means I won't be seeing her that often anymore.

But as I kept myself occupied with classes after classes, and thinking about assignments and nothin else, I got my mind off all the negativity. And to make my day brighter, my photos are UP on PHAT CULTURE!

Collaborated with one of my favourite online boutiques in town, www.phatculture.com for the first time! Owners Eliza & May have been real nice since the very start when they first approached me to model for them, in all our discussions and planning, then finally on the day of the shoot itself.

It's nice to have great bosses, isn't it? :)

This was taken right after my Lang Tengah trip, which explains the tanned skin. Kinda liked it but now I'm focusing on getting fairer! Moving on from the beach & tanning season...teehee

Their clothes have all got a touch of vintage, femininity, elegance and hotness all at the same time. Can you imagine me trying on so many pretty clothes, dresses and tops in one day? It's hard not to fall in love!

"So how much does your boyfriend give you every month?

"Uh, no he doesn't give me a monthly allowance.

"But you guys look so happy together.

*???* "Say what???!

Oh, how I get that question posted to me all the time, followed by the surprise on their part when I revealed the ultimate truth that NO, I don't take a monthly (nor weekly, daily, not annually, even!) allowance.

You must be thinking *tsk tsk* bad boyfriend. But honestly, is it normal? To receive a fixed (and gradually increasing) allowance from your boyfriend?

That idea has never come across my mind. Not even when I was a poor little school girl (am still a school girl just not that poor anymore), neither when I'm actually broke to ask/hint for an allowance from the bf. Never before in these 7 years of relationship.

Sure, many a times he would offer to buy me stuff or give me a certain amount to get the things I've been eyeing on. But that's occasional!

I really don't see why I should get an allowance from the bf, when I don't even take an allowance from my own parents. He's working, and so am I. Although our income has a vast difference seeing that I'm only a part-time, freelance model, but I can survive on my own income and I really don't see why I should be receiving an allowance.

Of course, when we're out on our dates, he pays for meals and movies 95% of the time. But I do, during the 5% of the time offer to pay for our dates. I think it's kinda fun! And it's OUR relationship...I figured it'd be nice to share the financial load if I can sometimes.

I know many girls who expect their bfs to pay for EVERYTHING including their own makeup, clothes, bags, shoes, food, movies, pad, contact lens, etc etc. And honestly, unless your bf really is very well-to-do, you'd be putting damn a lot of pressure on him, and his pocket!

Imagine he's still a poor secondary school kid, a uni student or just a fresh grad. HOW do you expect him to pay for all your stuff and rear you? It'll ultimately be his parents' money so indirectly his parents are rearing you.

Listen, I'm not a feminist. Never regarded myself as one. I believe and fall for chivalry, and I admit that guys are really important in our lives.

But this is one aspect that I cannot tolerate: Girls who use the excuse- "Because I'm a girl, and you're a guy, so you pay." or simply, "Because I'm your gf."

I believe that girls should be feminine, graceful, gentle, and so on...but I also believe that we are strong, capable of generating income and independent of men (and their money!).

We're created to be a "helper", not add stress & pressure to guys and shorten their lifespan.

So girls, please don't make guys think that every girl is like that. The fact is far from that. I, for one, derive pleasure from knowing that I'm saving my bf a hell of amount of money, and for the fact that hey, I can support myself with ease and buy whatever I want with MY OWN money ;)

Confident & independent girls are sexy. Just ask Neyo.

Disclaimer #1: I know many friends who receive monthly allowances from their bfs who love them with all their hearts. That's fine, I truly accept and feel happy for them. But I just don't CONDONE and I don't believe that it's absolute for every relationship.

Disclaimer #2: That does not mean that guys can now throw the bills at me! Hahaha I love gentlemen, it's a plus plus plus point! But when I dine out with guys friends, I'd expect to separate the bill and 'Go Dutch'. It'd be nice if they offer to pay for the meal once in a while (every single time? hmmm that'd be creepy...), but giving me the tab is......

.........not nice. It only shows your level of generosity and what a real gentleman you are. I will still be your friend of course, it's just that I won't recommend any of my girlfriends to ya ;)

My point is this. I am happy in this relationship not because he gives me money or pays for my shopping. Neither is he happy in this relationship because I don't expect him to pay for me and pay me! hahah

We're both happy purely because we love each other, and love being with each other. Period.

So yes, the secret to 7 years of loving relationship?

I don't really know the secrets, but I'm definite that it's not about the $$$.

It's pouring heavily outside. Which makes it more inspiring to blog about this memorable weekend. A weekend I'll never forget.

Been attending City Harvest Church KL for about 4 years plus. My spiritual life, and every aspect of my life, altogether has grown and progressed so much, so far from where I came from, from where I started.

It is in this place that I learn how to love and give even more generously. A place I was learned how to be a leader by examples of my leaders in church, how to build relationships, encourage and inspire, and fully utilize the gifts and talents God has placed in my life.

It is in this place that I stretched my faith and capacity to serve, to go the extra mile. To learn the right attitudes while working and dealing with people.

It is where I discovered my ability to act, cry on demand, dance ballet & contemporary, hiphop & reggae, sing, host, write, model, and win pageants, through all the opportunity and experiences I gained through serving in various ministries.

I'm grateful for all my leaders, church and cell members. and the powerful presence of God every weekend. I can say that CHCKL has groomed me to be who I am today.

I don't know about you, but going to church week in, week out has always been the highlight of my week. I've never grown bored of it.

Aside from the fact that my church is cool & happening like that, it is the other fact that each time I step outta church, I feel recharged, and ready for the challenges ahead of the upcoming week.

This weekend, 27-28th August 2011 marks the 10th year anniversary of CHCKL!

Since its birth 10 years ago, thousands of lives have been touched and changed by the God in this house. I'm forever grateful.

It was our big CHCKL 10th Bday celebration. People told me that it's grand. I don't see why it shouldn't be.

10 years is a milestone. A reason to celebrate!

Blow, wind, blow!

It's been busy, busy, busy since my last update! But nothing's stopping me from blogging, especially about this ;)

The Advertlets bloggers were invited to Mahsa University College for a First Aid Workshop! Knowing that we'll learn about basic first aid skills and how to do CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) or better known as mouth-to-mouth, I jumped upon the invitation!

Yeah yeah yeah I'm jakun like that. I bet you don't know how to do a proper, step-by-step CPR just like how I was too! *hmppph* But now I can proudly say, I DO ;)

Last Saturday, 11am. That's considered really early for a lazy Saturday! But I rolled outta bed excited as I knew I'd be doing something different and learning something new.

We were given a brief on the background of Mahsa University College and its various courses before going on to THIS!

I realised there are SO MANY important things we need to know about giving a CPR. Oh just how I've been ignorant.

We were given real clear instructions on what to do, and what not to do. And we were beyond honoured to have been given a hands on training by the CEO of Mahsa himself :)

Another instructor cleaning the "mouth" of "Jim". AWESOMEEE. That really made me feel less sceptical and grossed out to give the manniquin some "lovin" :D

Our trainer going through the simple steps again and again and again to make sure we know just what to do with "Jim".

Here's me looking rather confused.

Okay, these are not the exact steps, but being the noob me who has no clue about Bio terms, here's what I remember from the training :P

In layman terms, here are Careen's 4 simple steps to giving a NAIS CPR.

*clears throat*

#1: Check first.

You gotta tap tap the chest and shoulders and try to wake the victim up. If all the tapping and shaking (you can tickle if you want...but in the real situation you may be too panicked to try to be funny) failed to wake him up, do the following.

#2: Listen to the....nose

Lift the head of the victim to open the breathing passage (hope I got it right!), and put your ear close to the victim's nose to listen for his/her breathing. If he/she's still breathing, then there's NO NEED for CPR (unless you're a perv/hamsap guy. Or girl), If no signs of breathing, next step!

#3: Pump it!

As seen in the picture above, put your hands together on the chest of the victim (place hands right in the middle of the chest, along the nipple line), lock your elbows, and start pumping profusely for 30 times each set. This can be pretty tiring. Hehe

After pumping 30 times consecutively without stopping, check for the victim's sign of breathing again. No sign? Then continue until there's a sign. Continue 5 sets of these. But according to our trainer, if you're tired you can take a rest too :P Hahah!

#4: Kiss me, kii kii kiss me

Still no signs of breathing? This is when the ultimate weapon is used.

Make sure the victim's head is tilted upward (as seen in pic above), then blow air/breathe into the victim's mouth, NOT KISS OKAY!

But seriously, you gotta breathe into it hard enough to see the victim's chest moving up and down as you perform your CPR. Not easy at all! Definitely not as simple (and romantic) as it looks!

At first I was pretty sceptical and wanted to sit out from the hands-on experience. But then I thought seriously, if my loved ones or anyone for that matter happens to need a CPR to survive, would I be able to do a proper one that could potentially save them? Hmmm.

Now that I tried it myself, and am taught the right way, I feel more confident about giving a proper CPR. ^.^V

Good stuff! Everyone should learn and try it on "Jim" at least once in their lifetime!

All in all, I'm impressed by its state-of-the-art facilities to facilitate undergrad trainings, as well as their warm hospitality :)

The staff from Mahsa University College were real patient in hosting us, bringing us for tours around the best (and most interesting) parts of the campus and explaining in such detail.

Plus, it's really kind and sweet of them to present us a certificate of attendance each!

Yayyy! For the brave-hearted :P

Even being a mass comm student who has absolutely no clue (okay, maybe a little teeny weeny bit) about Bio, I'm really impressed by the university as a whole. It's pretty huge, with so much to learn and experience!

Traffic congestions are wonderful.

Cos you're stuck with nothing to do but to look around you and occasionally catch other drivers picking their nose, spitting outta the car, talking to themselves, kissing their partners, falling asleep, camhoring *ahem* etc etc etc.

And while there isn't much drama around you (Especially during the off-work rush hour where people don't even have the mood to pick their nose), you spend most of your time in the car pondering about stuff, planning and thinking. Well, that's what the restless-must-make-my-time-worthwhile Careen does!

Life's become such a fast & forward (and furious!) motion that I sometimes forget what just happened the day before, while needing my calendar to help me recall my activities. Getting old? Well, maybe :(

It's amazing to see how different days have been allocated for different groups of people in my life.

Juggling with my part-time job as a model/talent/emcee/blogger, serving in my church's video, drama, dance, and worship team ministry, leading a cell group of crazy people (I love them!), a full-time student with massive ongoing assignments, as well as a full-time friend, daughter, sister, and gf, I hardly get to say, "I'm so bored, I don't know what to do today."

In fact, it's been years since I registered the word, 'Bored' in my system. Absolutely no time to be bored!

Was looking for a word that best sums up my life, and that word is 'STRETCHED'.

During the times where we spot dark circles, puffy eyes and dry skin due to lack of sleep and TLC :(

But very quickly, I'd brush these thoughts aside, because I know that these stuff that I commit myself to are things and people that I love, that complete my life.

My dear family members who support me through every thick and thin, celebrate my success and share pieces of my burden.

My darling who loves and pampers me like a princess. I'm overwhelmed :)

I'm busy for these things and people in my life, yet at the same time, these things and people are the ones that keep me alive. Making my life ever so meaningful.

At the end of the day, I know that my busyness pays off, because I'm not just blindly filling my time with activities and events, but with experiences and people that matter to me.

However, as much as I hate to admit it, being so busy does take a toll on my health. By the time I reach home on a busy day (which is most of the days), my energy level would be zero. Nada. Nil.

These days, sleep is so precious that once I lay my head down on my fluffy pillow and snuggle myself into my comforter, I'm fast asleep. Insomnia? Never experienced anything close!

The people in my life keeps me going mentally, emotionally. But physically, THIS is what keeps me going, while giving me a radiant outlook despite having a hectic schedule and lack of sleep.

Secret to my inner shine

I've been trying Innershine OPC for close to two weeks now, and I've seen tremendous results.

So the boyf turned 2_ on the 1st of September ;)

Due to the nature of his job, he had to be away during his actual birthday, so we waited for him to be home to celebrate this special day.

It was a blessing in disguise. Gave me more time to plan for his gifts ;)

It's been years since I last made him a card. I remember bcos I was young & penniless, I used to make cards for him on different occasions- Valentine's Day, his birthday, our anniversary and Christmas. And sometimes random cards and "coupons" he can redeem. That was when I was comparatively freer.

These days when life gets busier, we would prefer the easy way out- that is to BUY.

Make dinner? Buy.

Make cards? Buy.

Make babies? Buy.

Just kidding :)

But the latter is true to many celebrity families, no?

Am glad I made a conscious effort to squeeze in the time to make him a simple card just a day before presenting all the 5 gifts I had for him. After I was done with the card only then I realised it looked a little girlish and childish. Aih. Nonetheless, he loved it and that's all that matters :P

After 7 years of celebrating birthdays together, we can easily run outta ideas of where to go, where to makan, what to do, etc. Thank God Malaysia still has many places (especially eateries) where we can explore and try out!

Our first stop:

Aquaria KLCC!

I'm no big fan of fishies, but I've heard numerous good reports about the aquarium so we decided to checkitout!

We were first greeted by the piranhas.

These fishies are no ordinary breed man. We witnessed the piranha feeding session and thought we were watching a movie or something. They're fierce, fast and furious. *major rawr*

Sorry my camera cacat cannot really see the piranhas behind.

The point of the photo is: We saw piranhas.

Oooh then we were asked to feel this crab + spider thing (forgot the name!)

Boyf felt the crab + spider first and told me it felt like it had multiple legs. I freaked out!

After wasting a whole good 5 minutes of hesitating, stretching out my palm, holding back, (repeat process 8 times) and annoying the hell outta the guy (and the boyf but he still smiled and encouraged me to feel the multiple-legged creature), I finally gathered my guts and went ahead, because I GOT SWAG! *does hip hop pose*

The feeling was quite geli. I can now proudly tell my future grandkids that granny felt the multiple-legged crab + spider during grandpa's b'day celebration :))

I know this one! Electric Eel!

Apparently this fishie is really powerful. Can kill.

Now introducing my favourite animals/reptiles in Aquaria.

Otters!

They're the cutest and liveliest creatures in the whole of Aquaria. They lived in a group of 5 or 6, and were constantly playing chasing games, wrestling and swimming with one another. Naughty and cheeky. And super cute. Makes me feel like having otters at home :)

Water Rat!

These animals are super cute! Both of em were siblings. They eat an amount of food which is equivalent to 25% of their weight. That explains the chubbiness but then again, they have really healthy diet such as carrots, potatoes, cucumber and other veg.

When the time drew near to their usual feeding time, they automatically moved near the door, expectant of their trainer. Smart, eh? :)

The most amazing feature about these Water Rats is that they have got hands with 5 fingers just like us human beans, but had feet like ducks, enabling them to swim. Amazing creation of God.

I've a thing for reptiles.

I think they're really beautiful, and hair-free which is awesome.

I forgot its name but this is one really cute animal :)

It had a spacious room for it to run up and down, just like in the forest.

But then, I do feel that these animals could have been happier in their natural habitat :(

This is my favourite (after the otters)!

I forgot its name, but I remember it sounded something like something something Asian turtle.

Super tiny and cute with super long neck. A bit geli-looking but uber cute, no? :)))))

Now, on to the not so favoured ones.

Although I have a thing for reptiles, I find this particular one evil-looking, creepy and I don't like it at all.

This is the ultimate dislike!! Yuck!!!

What the hell is this weih. I didn't even bother remembering its name. Couldn't stop complaining to the boyf just how gross these frog-looking thingy are.

I hate clowns, but I think I have a new No. 1 in my hate list.

After spending a total of 3 hours plus in Aquaria, we watched the much-talked and raved about Nasi Lemak 2.0.

Rating: 9/10

(I admit my expectation was high due to all the praises)

In spite of that, I found myself familiar with the inside jokes, casts, culture and scenes of the movie. It was a different feeling when it's a homegrown production as compared to watching a Sporean or Hongkie comedy.

As a mass comm student, I'm always taught to analyse movies, so most movies would have their loopholes identified but for this one, it's either it's so good that it didn't have any loopholes, or I was simply enjoying it too much to even bother noticing.

Made by Malaysians, for Malaysians.

A must watch :)

I'm a meat-lover so I thoroughly enjoyed the food served.

Despite disliking it, I really don't hate it as much as lizards. If it's a lizard standing on my fan, I'd throw the whole fan outta my window!

I CANNOT understand why people can say that lizards are better then cockroaches. They're moist, cold, noisy, and have bulging eyes! And they're fat!

At least a cockroach isn't sticky and wet and have bulging eyes. And they don't make noise.

They just look disgusting and smell weird that's all. Ok that's bad enough. Heheh

It's been an hour and that fella is still stuck in between my fan.

I wonder what will happen if it stays there for another day or for the whole week, with the fan on? Will it freeze?

Hello there! It's been quite a while since I updated. Been really really busy juggling everything. But it's all good. Can't wait to seriously take the time to sit down and update all that has happened one by one!

But while I'd been away, something amazing has happened to me. My skin has magically improved so much since I started drinking Innershine OPC.

No need for makeup!

Am one of the lucky 12 female bloggers chosen to do a review about it. And if you know me personally, I wouldn't endorse a product that doesn't work.

Friends been asking me if what I said in THIS and THIS blog posts were real, and I assured everyone who asked me that I'd personally tried 2 boxes of Innershine OPC, and my skin has greatly improved.

It is now much more supple, and brings out the natural pink in my cheeks, even without the help of makeup. It even smoothen my skin, especially during pre-period and assignment days!
